American Canadian Caribbean

When we first started American Canadian Caribbean cruise line in 1966, no one was offering overnight cruises on a small ship. In fact, the phrase “small ship cruising” had not yet been coined. In order to experience a small ship cruise, you had to own your own yacht or have a friend who did. Luther Blount owned such a yacht and he had a lot of friends! More guests started requesting that he find other interesting places to take them. Fortunately, he had the vision and the ability to build this hobby into a thriving cruise business. What started first as family swordfishing vacations to New England and the Canadian Maritimes has developed into one of the most renowned niche cruise companies that has defined the industry.

With Luther’s shipbuilding background and love of sailing, he combined the knowledge of a seasoned yachtsman with the engineering skills of a naval architect to construct a vessel that would be able to navigate shallow coastal waters and under the low bridges of the Erie Canal. He developed a retractable pilot house that lowers into the second deck to allow passage under these low bridges or low-hanging brush found along tropical rivers. He developed a shallow draft feature that allows for not only cruising in shallow depths, but for landing right up on sandy beaches! Always customer-oriented, he developed a bow ramp that eliminates the need for disembarking via tender.

Today, ACCL has a fleet of three specially designed ships that feature Luther’s patented designs. With many itineraries to choose from each year, passengers keep coming back to repeat the ACCL experience.
Our ships are cozy and comfortable with an informal atmosphere evident in our BYOB policy and relaxed dress code. Our itineraries are specially tailored to the active, inquisitive and eco-conscious audience. We choose our crew, chefs, guest lecturers, outside entertainment, and land tours carefully to provide a top-notch vacation. We hope you will find ACCL to be as special as we do.
